Following a massage session in the Algarve town of Quarteira, a masseur has been taken into custody for allegedly sexually assaulting a 71-year-old woman.
The British pensioner, aged 71, reported the distressing incident to the authorities, which took place in Quarteira.
Confirmation of the arrest came from a spokesperson for the Policia Judiciaria in Loule, Quarteira.
The police representative stated, “Last Friday, a 47-year-old man was apprehended by the Polícia Judiciaria under strong suspicion of sexually assaulting a foreign 71-year-old at a massage center in Loule.”
“The victim disclosed the incident that transpired post a massage session,” added the spokesperson.
“Following a thorough investigation led by the PJ’s Southern Directorate, crucial evidence was gathered by the officers,” they continued.
An individual privy to the investigation mentioned, “Awaiting medical reports to comprehend the full extent of the incident.”
“Background verification of the arrested person is underway to determine any potential prior incidents involving them,” they further added.
“In such scenarios, victims tend to refrain from reporting to the authorities due to shame or trauma. At present, there’s no information suggesting the detainee has prior sex crime-related arrests or convictions in Portugal,” they elaborated.
The accused, yet to be identified, has already faced court proceedings and has been released on bail. They are required to report weekly and maintain no contact with the alleged victim.
