Oyo State: Governor Makinde Applauds Security Agencies for Neutralizing Yoruba Nation Agitators

Security operatives in Oyo State have received praise from Governor Seyi Makinde for successfully preventing a group suspected to be Yoruba Nation agitators from seizing control of the government secretariat.

During a meeting with Major-General Obinna Onubogu, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 2 Mechanised Division at Odogbo Barracks in Ibadan on Monday, Makinde expressed his appreciation.

Notable personalities present at the event included Professor Olanike Adeyemo, the Secretary to the State Government; Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, the Chief of Staff to the governor; and CP Fatai Owoseni (retd), the Special Adviser on Security.

Also in attendance were Col. James Ajibola (retd), the Director-General of Operation Burst, and Col. Olayinka Olayanju (retd), the Director-General of the Amotekun Corps.

According to NewsNow, individuals claiming to be Yoruba Nation agitators had attempted to take over the state House of Assembly by storming the secretariat on Saturday.

During the meeting with the GOC, Makinde commended the quick response of the security operatives to the incident.

The governor emphasized that the emergency security response system was activated promptly and effectively to contain the situation.

He expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Army and other security agencies for swiftly addressing the actions of the agitators.

Makinde remarked that despite existing security vulnerabilities, the agitators encountered a situation that exceeded their expectations.

“Regarding the events of Saturday, the Emergency Security Response was promptly activated and functioned effectively. The response was rapid and timely, and I believe the troublemakers were met with a situation beyond their reckoning. Within just one hour, the situation was brought under control.

“I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to you and all security agencies in the state. The prompt and coordinated response is deeply appreciated.

“Leaders in various positions in this country, whether in the military, politics, or governance, as well as community leaders, are facing challenges at this time. As leaders, it is crucial that we collaborate to address the root causes of such situations when the people we lead are experiencing hunger and anger.”
