Liberia’s first case of coronavirus confirmed

Officials in Liberia have announced the country's first case of coronavirus on Monday, March 16.   The confirmed case is Nathaniel Blama, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, who returned to Liberia on Friday, March 13 after traveling to Switzerland.   According to Chief Medical Officer Francis Kateh, "I can confirm that we have a case and we are managing it," he told Reuters.   President George Weah is expected to address the nation later today. Residents have been urged to remain calm as health officials work on tracing and quarantining all individuals who may have come into contact with the infected person, for the incubation period of the virus.

On Monday, March 16, a ministry official in Liberia confirmed that the country has recorded its first case of coronavirus.   The individual who tested positive for the coronavirus is Nathaniel Blama, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency. He recently returned to Liberia on Friday, March 13, after visiting Switzerland.   Chief Medical Officer Francis Kateh informed Reuters that, "I can confirm that we have a case and we are managing it."   President George Weah is expected to address the nation later in the day. Meanwhile, residents have been urged to remain calm as health officials work to trace all individuals who had contact with the infected person and place them in quarantine for the virus's incubation period.

Following the federal high court's removal of Adams Oshiomhole as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Court of Appeal in Abuja has deferred the hearing on his appeal.   In court today, on March 16, a panel of three Justices, led by Justice Stephen Adah, who were overseeing other cases, assured that a new panel would be constituted to consider Oshiomole’s appeal. Labour MP Kate Osborne tests positive for coronavirus, becoming the second British politician affected

Announcing her positive coronavirus test on Twitter, Kate Osborne revealed that she has contracted the virus.   Having only been an MP since December, the Labour MP becomes the second British politician to be affected by the virus, while 16 others are self-isolating.   Kate Osborne, representing Jarrow, received her diagnosis following Health Minister Nadine Dorries' positive test and subsequent self-isolation.
