Liberia Reports its First Case of Coronavirus

On Monday, March 16, a ministry official in Liberia confirmed that the country has recorded its first case of coronavirus.

 

The individual who tested positive for the coronavirus is Nathaniel Blama, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency. He recently returned to Liberia on Friday, March 13, after visiting Switzerland.

 

Chief Medical Officer Francis Kateh informed Reuters that, “I can confirm that we have a case and we are managing it.”

 

President George Weah is expected to address the nation later in the day. Meanwhile, residents have been urged to remain calm as health officials work to trace all individuals who had contact with the infected person and place them in quarantine for the virus’s incubation period.
