Liberia’s first case of coronavirus confirmed

Officials in Liberia have announced the country’s first case of coronavirus on Monday, March 16.

 

The confirmed case is Nathaniel Blama, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, who returned to Liberia on Friday, March 13 after traveling to Switzerland.

 

According to Chief Medical Officer Francis Kateh, “I can confirm that we have a case and we are managing it,” he told Reuters.

 

President George Weah is expected to address the nation later today. Residents have been urged to remain calm as health officials work on tracing and quarantining all individuals who may have come into contact with the infected person, for the incubation period of the virus.
