Man who took the life of a gay man he connected with on Facebook clarifies his actions

A man who ended the life of a gay man he met on Facebook has given his reason for the grave act. Angus Chukwebuka Nwankwo, also known as Kito, allegedly killed his Facebook friend, a man from Benue state living in Owerri and left the body in a bush in Nanka, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State. He carried out this act with the assistance of Chidiebere Omeyi.

Both suspects, together with others, were displayed before the press at the Police headquarters in Amawbia, Awka South South Local Government Area of the state.

Nwankwo, speaking to journalists, stated that he met the deceased on Facebook, and the man was keen on having a sexual encounter with him.

“We connected on Facebook and he proposed engaging in homosexual acts and I initially declined. However, after persistent pressure, I gave in,” Nwankwo said.

“He pledged to pay me ₦20,000 if I consented to have sex with him. Upon his arrival in Nanka, I demanded the money he promised. When he stated that he would only give me the money after our encounter, a dispute ensued. He attacked me with a stick, and in retaliation, I hit him. Tragically, he died as a result.”

The suspect denied abandoning the body in the bush, claiming that he and his brother surrendered to a vigilante group, which then took them to the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) in Nanka due to the absence of a police station in the area.

Chidiebere, the younger brother and accomplice of the suspect, told the media that his brother is not homosexual, emphasizing that he is involved in comedy, music, and is learning plumbing in Lagos.

He added that his brother had returned from Lagos to the village for a burial and had no intention of engaging in a sexual act with the deceased. His plan was solely to collect the ₦20,000 from the individual and then part ways, according to Chidiebere.
