Illegal Security Guards Apprehended by NSCDC in Anambra, Firearms Seized

An operation conducted by the Anambra Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) led to the arrest of eight individuals believed to be unlicensed private security guards in possession of four pump action guns.

Olatunde Maku, the State Commandant of NSCDC, disclosed this information during a press briefing held on Friday, where he highlighted that the suspects were apprehended in Awka during a raid carried out on Thursday.

According to Maku, the arrests were made based on actionable intelligence received by the command.

The individuals taken into custody were identified as Eze Emmanuel (34), Patrick Nwoye (27), Okafor Chibuike (21), Tochukwu Chukwuemeka (27), Kingsley Asuauo (20), Blessed Mfonu (22), Ikechukwu Emeka (21), and Amu Emmanuel (23).

Initial investigations revealed that some of the suspects were posing as members of the Anambra Vigilance Group, while others were hired by hotels to provide security services, despite operating without proper licensing or registration.

Additionally, four pump action guns along with 16 live cartridges were confiscated from the suspects.

“All the detained individuals are currently undergoing thorough investigation, following which they will be formally charged and prosecuted,” Maku stated.

He emphasized, “This operation is part of our ongoing efforts to fulfill the mandates of the NSCDC, and we are dedicated to ensuring that no responsibilities are neglected.”
