Delivery of Anthrax Vaccines by Nigerian Government to Taraba

Hundreds of doses of anthrax vaccines have been delivered to the Taraba State government by the federal government.

Upon receiving the vaccines in Jalingo on Monday, Professor Nicholas Namessan Oliver, the Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, expressed that the vaccines would aid the state government in its efforts to combat the spread of anthrax.

The Agriculture and Food Security department accepted the vaccines on behalf of the Taraba State government.

In appreciation of the federal government, the commissioner announced plans to distribute the vaccines to livestock farmers across all sixteen local government councils in the state, including the two special development areas.

He highlighted that the distribution strategy aims to safeguard the state’s livestock and secure its agricultural industry.

Reflecting the government’s continuous dedication to animal health and food security, he mentioned that similar anthrax vaccines had been procured and distributed to livestock farmers in the state last year.

The importance of the vaccines in preventing anthrax spread within the state was underscored by Abubakar Sadiq, the Animal Health Technical Assistant representing the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.

Sadiq emphasized the threats posed by the disease to livestock and farmers who depend on the animals for their livelihoods, stressing the collective effort needed to avert an outbreak in any part of the state.
