Despite Unpaid Fees, Kaduna University Students Proceed with Semester Exams

In a show of support for the students amidst economic difficulties, Kaduna State University allowed students to take their semester exams even if their school fees for the 2023/2024 academic session remain unpaid.

The university’s decision, as detailed in an official statement, was prompted by a directive from Governor Uba Sani aimed at easing the financial burden on the students during these challenging times.

In 2023, the prior administration, under the leadership of former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, had doubled the school fees, leading to some students withdrawing voluntarily due to financial constraints, while others faced difficulties in meeting the payment deadlines.

Responding to the situation, Governor Uba Sani announced a reduction in the fees required for state-owned tertiary institutions.

The statement emphasized, “In the 2023/2024 academic session, both new and returning students are permitted to sit for the upcoming exams, regardless of their fee payment status, aligning with Governor Uba Sani’s strategic initiative to alleviate the economic pressures faced by students.”

For those seeking clarity or additional information on the temporary clearance policy, the university’s Bursar’s office is available for assistance, the statement further mentioned.

“Although students who wish to settle their fees can continue to do so through the existing payment channels,” it concluded.
