Senator Akpabio Urges IG Egbetokun to Root Out Corrupt Officers

In a call to action, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has urged the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to eliminate corrupt officers within the force.

During the inaugural Nigeria Police Awards and Commendations Ceremony in Abuja, Akpabio expressed the National Assembly’s full support for enhancing policing in Nigeria.

Akpabio commended IG Kayode Egbetokun and the entire leadership of the Nigeria Police Force for hosting the event and encouraged them to use the platform to celebrate the force’s achievements and reaffirm their dedication to a safer Nigeria.

He emphasized the importance of recognizing the brave and selfless contributions of officers as a means to motivate them and reinforce the force’s new policing agenda.

Akpabio highlighted the challenges faced by the police in combating evolving crimes and increasingly sophisticated criminal elements, stressing the importance of addressing these issues collaboratively.

Addressing the audience, which included Vice President Kashim Shettima, Akpabio pledged the National Assembly’s unwavering cooperation in enhancing law enforcement across the nation.

He underscored the significance of a well-equipped and motivated police force in safeguarding citizens’ security and well-being, promising continued legislative support and resource allocation to empower the police in their duties.

Akpabio emphasized the need for collective support from all stakeholders to bolster the effectiveness of the Police Force in delivering services.

He acknowledged the exemplary performance and integrity of awardees, praising their dedication to serving the nation and urging them to uphold high standards of service.

Alongside awards recognizing various policing efforts, posthumous honors were bestowed upon seven fallen heroes who lost their lives in the line of duty at Ugheli forest in Delta State on 20th February 2024.

Representatives of the deceased officers’ families received the awards and entitlements during the ceremony, with Akpabio announcing financial support to assist the families in their time of need.

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf also contributed financially to support the families of the fallen officers, showcasing solidarity with the affected families.

Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima lauded the Senate President and Kano State Governor for their compassionate gestures towards the bereaved families, acknowledging their show of empathy.
