Nasarawa State Government Enforces Ban on Ethnic Vigilante Groups

Following an emergency security meeting led by Governor Abdullahi Sule, the Nasarawa State Government has officially prohibited all ethnic vigilante groups operating within the state.

In response to the recommendations of the state security council, the directive mandates affected ethnic vigilante groups to surrender their weapons and uniforms to the Commissioner of Police within a two-week timeframe.

In compliance with Executive Order No. 1 of 2024, Governor Sule has banned the Fulani ethnic vigilante group, known as the Kungiyar Zaman Lafiya, along with the Bassa vigilante group and the Eggon vigilante group.

Stated in the announcement, “Any organization or association aimed at providing security exclusively for certain ethnic groups in Nasarawa State through the use of force or arms is hereby proscribed and deemed unlawful.”

Therefore, the Kungiyar Zaman Lafiya nomad vigilante, Bassa vigilante, Eggon vigilante, and other similar groups have been dissolved by law and declared detrimental to the governance of the state.
