Endorsement of Otti: Confidence Vote by LP Leadership and Legislators

Approaching his one-year mark in office on May 29, Alex Otti, the governor of Abia State, received a vote of confidence from the Labour Party (LP) leadership in the state and the 17 LGAs.

The unanimous show of support took place during a meeting attended by the governor, the entire party leadership in the state, all political appointees in the state executive cabinet, as well as elected members from the national and Abia State houses of assembly.

Moving the vote of confidence motion was Obi Aguocha, the representative of the Ikwuano-Umuahia federal constituency, who highlighted Otti’s exceeding of expectations during his 11 months in office.

The endorsement, held at the governor’s residence, was seconded by Munachim Alozie, the representative of Obingwa-Osisioma-Ugwunagbo federal constituency, with the decision put to a vote by the Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Emeruwa.

Stakeholders noted that the meeting aimed to acquaint the party leadership at both state and local government levels with various government appointees, including members of the state’s executive council and local government officials.

Expressing surprise and gratitude for the solidarity shown by his party leadership and stakeholders, Governor Otti acknowledged the recognition of his administration’s modest achievements within less than a year in office.

Otti reflected on the state of Abia upon taking office, emphasizing how citizens were hesitant to identify as Abians, unlike the present where the state’s reputation has notably improved.

“Today, everywhere you introduce yourself as an Abian, people look at you differently with respect, unlike in the past,” Otti remarked.
