The directive from JAMB concerning parents found near CBT centres

All owners of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres have been instructed by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to detain any parent found in the vicinity of their facilities during the 2024 UTME exercise. The board has finalized arrangements for the upcoming 2024 UTME, set to take place in over 700 CBT centres nationwide.

This order was issued during the final briefing of the CBT Centre owners, conducted virtually on Wednesday, 17th April 2024. The Board emphasized that this directive is crucial due to the intrusive behavior of some parents in previous Board exercises.

According to Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Registrar, “Any parent disobeying this directive will be not only arrested but will also result in their ward being disqualified from the examination.

Oloyede further stated, “This enforcement is necessary because it has been observed over time that certain intruding parents facilitate exam malpractices and disrupt the Board’s examinations. Some individuals even pose as parents to enter the centres and commit various infractions.”

As a result, security personnel have been instructed to collaborate with the centres to apprehend any interfering parent near the facilities.

Furthermore, in line with national education policy, candidates are required to be at least 17 years old to sit for the examination. Hence, the presence of such parents trying to compromise the examination process is viewed negatively by the Board.

The Board also advised candidates during the meeting to safeguard their details and be cautious of fraudulent websites. Candidates found engaging with such unauthorized sites will be treated as accomplices and may face legal action.

Oloyede assured that the Board is prepared to handle any technical challenges during the exams. Candidates should remain calm in case of any disruptions as alternative arrangements will be made to accommodate affected sessions.

Centre owners were urged to see their role as a national duty and report any misconduct. The Registrar highlighted the discontinuation of registering Direct Entry candidates at CBT centres due to fraudulent activities and warned of consequences for such actions.

The Board’s deployment of advanced technology aims to prevent infractions and maintain ethical operations within the examination process.
