70 reported dead and over 50 injured in Afghanistan floods

The death toll from recent flood incidents in Afghanistan has now reached 70, with more than 50 individuals sustaining injuries according to the national disaster authority.

Providing an update on Wednesday night, the spokesman for the national disaster authority, Mullah Janan Saeq, disclosed the grim statistics.

He stated, “The number of casualties resulting from the floods in the last six days has increased to 70 deaths and 56 injuries.”

Just a few days ago, the official had confirmed 33 fatalities and 27 injuries, indicating a concerning escalation in the impact of the natural disaster.

Over the past week, the devastating effects of rainstorms and flooding have led to the destruction or damage of over 2,500 homes and the loss of more than 2,000 livestock.

Rainfall and some areas experiencing isolated snowfall have been persistent across various regions of Afghanistan, affecting a significant portion of the country’s 34 provinces since last Friday.

The country’s meteorological directorate has issued forecasts predicting further precipitation over the next four days, exacerbating the ongoing crisis.
