Four Fake EFCC Operatives Arrested by Police in Nasarawa for Robbery and Abduction of Polytechnic Students

In Nasarawa State, the Police Command has apprehended four individuals who pretended to be EFCC operatives and carried out a robbery targeting students at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa. They also abducted Adudu Kingsley, a student in ND II.

A statement released by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state command on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, confirmed the arrests.

According to Nansel, the incident occurred on 17/04/2024 at around 1545hrs at Samakwe Lodge behind Government College in Nasarawa LGA. The suspects used a green Toyota Corolla with registration number Abuja YAB 509 TT for the robbery and abduction.

Police swiftly responded to a distress call, chasing the suspects. A roadblock was set up at Laminga junction to prevent the suspects from escaping with the victim, but they managed to flee after hitting the barrier.

Another roadblock was established at Anguwan Madugu, where the suspects abandoned their vehicle and the abducted student before fleeing. One suspect was apprehended by an angry mob, beaten, and later died while receiving medical treatment.

During a search of the recovered vehicle, two identification cards linking the suspects to the syndicate were found. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of three more individuals: Hyelda Aliyu Ibrahim, Henry Patrick Okwu, and Shuaibu Abubakar, who was the driver.

Among the exhibits recovered were an iPhone 12 Pro Max, Huawei, and Tecno Spark 5 phones, along with counterfeit EFCC ID cards. The suspects confessed to targeting student areas in Keffi and Nasarawa LGA.

The Police are actively pursuing the remaining suspect who is still at large. Victims have positively identified the apprehended suspects, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further scrutiny.

CP Umar Shehu Nadada has assured that once the investigations are concluded, the suspects will be prosecuted and brought before the court according to the statement released.
