In Awka, the capital city of Anambra, an official from the Anambra Road Traffic Management Agency (ARTMA) has been fatally shot by unidentified gunmen.
According to reports from NewsNow, this unfortunate event occurred shortly after another individual fell victim to a gun attack at Aroma junction on Wednesday evening.
A source revealed that the incident transpired near a motor park where vehicles transport passengers between Awka and Nnewi.
Describing the situation, the source stated, “The victim, an ARTMA official, intercepted a group of people traveling in a Toyota Sienna with tinted windows. Subsequently, the individuals opened fire on him before speeding away.”
“I witnessed the tragedy firsthand as I was preparing to board a vehicle to Nnewi this morning,” the source added.
While there has been a series of cult-related violence in Awka since Easter, it remains uncertain whether Thursday’s morning attack is connected to such activities.
The Public Relations Officer of the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, has not yet issued any statements regarding the incident at the time of compiling this report.
