Tinubu’s administration boosts civil servants’ salaries

President Bola Tinubu’s government has given the green light for a 25% and 35% salary hike for civil servants under various consolidated pay structures.

The approval was confirmed in a press release signed by Emmanuel Njoku, Head of Press at the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission.

Effective January 1, 2024, the salary increases will be implemented, as stated by Njoku.

This adjustment applies to the remaining six consolidated salary structures: Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure, Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure, Consolidated Police Salary Structure, Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure, Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure, and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure.

In addition, a raise in pension benefits for retirees enrolled in the Defined Benefits Scheme within these consolidated salary structures has also been sanctioned, increasing from 20% to 28% starting from the same date.

It is worth noting that the federal government had previously increased salaries in sectors such as tertiary education and health, covering structures like the Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure, Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure, Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure, Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure, Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure.
