The peaceful community of Okpagha in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo State was shattered by a gruesome incident where a woman, identified as Mrs. Nata Igbinovia, was stabbed and hacked to death.
Confirming the arrest of a suspect, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that investigations are ongoing.
Details reveal that the horrifying event took place on a Saturday night, with reports indicating that Mrs. Igbinovia was attempting to intervene in a quarrel between her nephew and neighbors, Philip Ayo and his son, when she became a victim of their violent outburst.
Following the tragic incident, enraged youths in the community set fire to the suspect’s residence in retaliation.
Describing the altercation, the victim’s daughter, known only as Patience, recounted how her mother shielded her nephew from a knife attack by Philip Ayo, resulting in her own injuries.
During the altercation, Mrs. Igbinovia tried to flee but was brutally attacked by the suspect’s son wielding an axe, followed by a stabbing from Ayo himself.
After the suspects fled, a concerned neighbor quickly transported the victim to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
