Passing of Ex-SPN Deputy Governor Candidate in Oyo, Famuti

At the age of 55, Comrade Ebunoluwa Famuti, who served as the deputy gubernatorial candidate for the Socialist Party of Nigeria (SPN) in the 2019 elections, has passed away.

Famuti was a dedicated staff member of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) in Oyo State and an active member of the SPN.

She has been laid to rest in her hometown of Uso in Ondo State.

The SPN, through a statement issued by its state secretary, Comrade Ayodeji Adigun, confirmed her demise.

In the statement released in Ibadan, the state capital of Oyo, Adigun described Famuti as not just a member of the SPN but also the party’s Deputy Governorship Candidate in the 2019 elections and a prominent member of the Democratic Socialist Movement (DSM). The latter is a socialist organization that, along with other activists, played a role in forming the SPN. Famuti was known for her staunch advocacy against injustice and her eagerness to provide support for societal advancement.

Her selflessness was evident as she offered her only vehicle for the SPN’s 2019 campaign without any charge, even though she used it for commercial purposes.

Comrade Ebunoluwa actively participated in various activities of both the organization and the party. She regularly attended meetings and contributed to the organization’s initiatives in supporting the working class and communities.

She was known to join fellow members in distributing leaflets and selling publications such as the Socialist Democracy (SD) paper to promote socialist ideals.

The SPN extends its sympathies to Famuti’s family, NULGE, friends, and acquaintances. The party urges workers, youth, and the general public to join them in the mission towards a socialist transformation of Nigeria’s state and economy. This, according to the party, is the only way to achieve the improved society that the late Comrade Ebunoluwa Famuti envisioned.
