Reason Behind the Annulment of Emeka Ihedioha’s Election as Imo Governor by the Supreme Court

The Supreme Court made the decision to annul Emeka Ihedioha's election as governor of Imo state, which took place on March 9th, 2019.   In the leading judgment delivered by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the apex court ruled that records before it proved that election results from 388 polling units during the election were unlawfully excluded from the overall collated results, which had declared Ihedioha as the winner of the state governorship election. It was noted that the results from the cancelled polling units amounted to 213,295 votes. The teenager who set his girlfriend on fire in Lagos is remanded by the court for allegedly cheating on him

Remand Order: An 18-year-old suspected internet fraudster, Victor Oji, who set his 24-year-old girlfriend Tolani Mariam on fire in Iba Town, Ojo Lagos, was remanded on Tuesday by an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court.   The Magistrate, Mrs A. Kusanu, did not take the teenager’s plea, but ordered that he should be kept at the Ikoyi Custodial Centre, Lagos, pending advice from the state director of public prosecutions. The case was adjourned until Feb. 19.   According to the Prosecutor, Insp. The Imo state governorship election result overturns by Supreme Court

Today, the Supreme Court has invalidated Emeka Ihedioha's election as the governor of Imo state, ruling that he was not duly elected.   The court declared Hope Uzodinma of the APC as the winner of the governorship election held on March 9th, 2019.   In the leading judgment delivered by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the apex court directed the immediate withdrawal of the certificate of return issued to Ihedioha, and ordered the issuance of a fresh certificate to Uzodinma. The court also mandated Uzodinma to be promptly sworn in as Governor.

An incident in Abuja leaves three injured following a clash between police and Shiites

Members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, known as Shiites, were involved in a clash with the Nigerian Police Force on January 14th, resulting in three injuries. The Shiite members gathered in the Berger area in Wuse to demand the release of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife Zeenat, who have been detained since December 2015. Attempting to disperse the crowd, the police used teargas canisters and reportedly fired gunshots into the air.
