An incident in Abuja leaves three injured following a clash between police and Shiites

Members of the proscribed Islamic Movement of Nigeria, known as Shiites, were involved in a clash with the Nigerian Police Force on January 14th, resulting in three injuries.

The Shiite members gathered in the Berger area in Wuse to demand the release of their leader, Sheik Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, and his wife Zeenat, who have been detained since December 2015.

Attempting to disperse the crowd, the police used teargas canisters and reportedly fired gunshots into the air.
