The Imo state governorship election result overturns by Supreme Court

Today, the Supreme Court has invalidated Emeka Ihedioha’s election as the governor of Imo state, ruling that he was not duly elected.

The court declared Hope Uzodinma of the APC as the winner of the governorship election held on March 9th, 2019.

In the leading judgment delivered by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the apex court directed the immediate withdrawal of the certificate of return issued to Ihedioha, and ordered the issuance of a fresh certificate to Uzodinma. The court also mandated Uzodinma to be promptly sworn in as Governor.
