Court Appearance of a Woman Accused of Assaulting Her Husband

Appearing before the Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos, a 34-year-old woman named Njoku Chioma faced charges of assaulting her husband by allegedly using a broken plate.

Denying the two-count charge of assault and property damage, Njoku resides at No 16, Ayo-Elegbede St., Aguda Surulere, Lagos.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Courage Ekhueorohan, the incidents occurred on April 6 at No 17 Adeonitimiri Cresent, Surulere, Lagos.

Allegedly, Njoku attacked her husband with the broken plate on his head upon learning about his practice of inviting other women to their home.

It was stated that Njoku deliberately vandalized two Lexus cars with Lagos registration number EKY 526 EU and YAB 669 GG, which belong to her husband, damaging the front and rear screens and the side mirrors with an object.

Ekhueorohan mentioned that the complainant, Onyema Njoku, and the defendant, Chioma, are currently going through a divorce and are living separately.

By committing these offenses, Ekhueorohan asserted that Njoku contravened sections 173 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Granting the defendant bail amounting to N200,000, along with two reputable sureties of equal value, Magistrate Mrs. O.O. Otitoju ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relative, and their residential addresses must be confirmed by the court.
The trial is set for May 16.
