Nigerian Navy Rescues Over 250 Individuals from Boating Accident in Rivers State
Personnel from Naval Security Station, NSS 023, stationed along Cawthorne Channel in Rivers State, have successfully rescued more than 250 passengers after a passenger boat capsized, as reported by the Nigerian Navy.
In a statement released by Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, Director of Naval Information, the rescue operation took place at 10:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The distressed boat, identified as MV Precious Emmanuel, departed from a local market in the Sangana area of Bayelsa en route to Rivers State when it ran into turbulent waters and collided with a wreck, resulting in the vessel overturning.
This locally crafted 3-deck wooden boat, commonly referred to as the "Large Cotonou Boat," lacked safety equipment and none of its passengers were wearing life jackets.
