Senate witnesses chaos as lawmakers clash over seating arrangement

Chaos erupted in the Senate chamber on Tuesday as three senators got into a heated argument regarding their seating positions.

The dispute arose when Senators Danjuma Goje of Gombe Central and Sahabi Yau from Zamfara North expressed dissatisfaction with their assigned seats and brought their grievances to Opeyemi Bamidele, the Senate Majority Leader.

Meanwhile, Senator Sunday Karimi, representing Kogi West, chairs the Senate Services Committee.

According to the Senate’s protocol, seating is determined by seniority among the senators.

The altercation unfolded while Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, was delivering his opening remarks.

Goje and Yau, seated on the right side of the second row, protested against their seating positions designated by the Senate Services Committee.

They argued that they were entitled to seats in the front row on the far right, opposite to the majority leader and the deputy senate president.

Reports indicate that the Senate is utilizing its renovated chamber after a two-year refurbishment project.
