Ohanaeze Ndigbo Condemns Nimbo Killings, Issues Warning to Herdsmen in Southeast Region

The recent killing of residents in Nimbo community, Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State by suspected herdsmen has been strongly condemned by the apex Igbo Socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo.

On Sunday morning, suspected herdsmen fatally attacked Okeh Oruki, Okeh Chukwuemeka, Julius Odiegwu, and Gabriel Ezra, who were all natives of Nimbo.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the factional Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, emphasized the urgent need for a prompt response from authorities, highlighting the grave threat armed herdsmen pose to the people of the Southeast.

Furthermore, Isiguzoro warned herdsmen to stay away from the Southeast region to avoid further conflicts.

The statement expressed deep concern and outrage over the violent incidents in Nimbo Community, condemning the attacks as a direct assault on the peace and stability of Igbo communities.

Ohanaeze Ndigbo called for immediate action from the Southeast Governors, Inspector General of Police, and relevant security agencies to investigate the escalating violence in the area.

The safety of Southeast residents, particularly vulnerable farmers residing in rural areas, must be prioritized to end the reign of terror caused by killer herdsmen.

The organization extended condolences to Governor Peter Mba of Enugu State and the bereaved families of Nimbo Community, demanding justice and accountability to ensure the perpetrators are swiftly brought to justice.

Additionally, Ohanaeze Ndigbo emphasized the reinstatement of the ban on cattle movement by foot within the region and rejected the establishment of Ruga settlements, affirming the Southeast’s stance on protecting its land from encroachment.

During this challenging period, the organization urged Southeast residents to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies, discouraging any form of retaliation or taking the law into their own hands regardless of provocation.
