The Labour Party Considers Automatic Tickets for Obi and Otti in the 2027 Election

In a recent communiqué issued after the national convention of the Labour Party in Nnewi, Anambra State, it was revealed that the party has decided to reserve its 2027 presidential ticket for Peter Obi, the candidate from the 2023 election.

Signatories of the communiqué include Julius Abure, the National Chairman of the party, and Umar Ibrahim, the National Secretary.

According to the communique, the party based its decision on the track record of Peter Obi before, during, and after the 2023 general election, recommending him as the sole candidate for the 2027 presidential ticket.

During the 2023 election, Peter Obi, who ran as the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, secured the third position, following President Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The party also announced that the governorship ticket will be reserved for Alex Otti, the Governor of Abia State.

Originally planned to take place in Umuahia, Abia State, the convention was eventually held in Nnewi, Anambra State.

The convention’s decisions have faced criticism, notably from the Nigeria Labour Congress, who deemed the convention illegal and demanded the resignation of Julius Abure as the party’s chairman.

Despite the opposition, Julius Abure was re-elected as the chairman of the Labour Party.

Furthermore, the communiqué highlighted the national convention’s review of the country’s current state, emphasizing that attaining power is one thing, but effectively utilizing it is crucial.

The statement addressed the concerning security situation post-2023 election, noting the rise in casualties and the worsening economic conditions with increasing inflation, high unemployment rates, pervasive hunger, and poverty due to currency devaluation and escalating fuel prices.

The convention urged President Bola Tinubu to take urgent and proactive measures to avert an economic collapse.
