The Army’s Response to Alleged Involvement of Soldiers in Dangote Refinery Theft

Concern has been raised by the Nigerian Army regarding accusations that two of its personnel were involved in a recent theft incident at the Dangote Refinery in Lagos.

Addressing the issue on Wednesday, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the army’s spokesperson, emphasized that such criminal behavior goes against the core values of the Nigerian Army.

He unequivocally denounced the act, deeming it completely unacceptable and deeply regrettable.

The two individuals in question have been apprehended and are currently in custody, as confirmed by General Nwachukwu.

Initial findings suggest that these soldiers were enlisted by a civilian contractor known as Mr. Smart, who purportedly sought to retrieve some armored cables he had left at the refinery site.

Unbeknownst to the soldiers, the contractor, sensing trouble ahead at the security checkpoint, absconded from the scene, leaving them stranded.

An ongoing investigation aims to establish the extent of the soldiers’ involvement in the incident. Furthermore, the stolen cables have been recovered and secured.

The army has assured that it is collaborating with Dangote Refinery’s management to ensure a comprehensive inquiry into the unfortunate occurrence.

General Nwachukwu, speaking on behalf of the army, pledged to enforce suitable disciplinary actions against those responsible, reiterating a firm stance against any form of criminal acts within their ranks.

“We are committed to nurturing a culture of accountability and ethical conduct among our personnel,” he affirmed.
