Two Alleged Russian Spies Arrested by Germany

Authorities in southern Germany have apprehended two German-Russian individuals on suspicion of spying for Russia. One of the suspects is accused of discussing potential acts of sabotage.

These two men, named Dieter S and Alexander J in compliance with Germany’s stringent privacy regulations, were taken into custody by the Federal Public Prosecutor General’s office. The arrest took place in Bayreuth, Bavaria on Wednesday.

Dieter S allegedly engaged in sharing information regarding potential sabotage activities in Germany with an individual affiliated with Russian intelligence since at least October of the previous year. The aim of these activities was reportedly to undermine Germany’s military support to Ukraine.

Dieter S purportedly expressed his willingness to execute explosive and arson attacks, primarily targeting military and industrial facilities in Germany. He gathered intelligence on possible targets, including U.S. armed forces installations.

Additionally, Dieter S is said to have conducted reconnaissance and captured images of some of the planned targets, such as military transport vehicles.

The second suspect, Alexander J, is alleged to have provided assistance from March 2024 onwards.
