Super Eagles must focus on Angola, says Peseiro

The head coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria, Jose Peseiro, emphasized the importance of maintaining focus on the upcoming AFCON quarter-final match against Angola, acknowledging the anticipated tough challenge posed by their opponents in comparison to the previous game against Cameroon.

Nigeria secured a 2-0 victory over Cameroon, with Ademola Lookman scoring both goals, propelling them into the quarter-finals where they will face Angola on February 2. The team is aiming to secure its fourth continental title, following previous victories in 1980, 1994, and 2013.

Peseiro praised the performance of his players in the previous match but emphasized the need for continued preparation and focus for the upcoming crucial clash with Angola. He highlighted the incredible spirit within the team and stressed the importance of intensifying training ahead of the next game.

Despite Victor Osimhen not scoring in the last match, Peseiro commended his exceptional performance and acknowledged the difficulty in containing the prolific Napoli striker, emphasizing his valuable contribution to the team’s gameplay.

Peseiro also expressed the challenges he faces in selecting the starting lineup for each game, highlighting the competitive nature within the team.

Angola’s recent performance saw Gelson Dala scoring four goals in the AFCON, including a brace in their 3-0 victory over Namibia, demonstrating their strong form heading into the quarter-final clash against Nigeria.

The upcoming AFCON quarter-final between Nigeria and Angola is set to take place on February 2 at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, at 9 pm (Nigerian time).
