Mob nabs, beats 28-year-old suspected thief burgling shop in Delta

**Outrage as Mob Vigilantes Capture and Assault Alleged Thief in Delta State**

A 28-year-old man suspected of breaking into a shop on Airport Road in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, was apprehended and subjected to brutal assault by an enraged mob.

The incident occurred on Sunday, when a bystander noticed the suspect in the act of burgling a woman’s shop and promptly raised an alarm, prompting the attention of security personnel from a nearby hotel. Despite attempting to escape, the suspect was chased down and captured by the mob.

The mob then proceeded to inflict severe beatings on the suspect after accusing him of stealing female slippers from the targeted shop. The suspect, identified as Nnamdi, reportedly sustained serious injuries during the assault.

In a statement made at the scene, the suspect, claiming to be a resident of Mechanic Village, Army Barracks in Effurun, denied the accusations, stating, “I did not break the shop. I am not a thief. It’s a lie. I am not a thief. I was just passing by.”

When further questioned about his presence at the shop and the identity of the actual burglar, the suspect chose to remain silent, feigning distress.

The unfortunate episode concluded with the release of the battered suspect, who endured the brutal assault before being set free.
