Substituted Means to Serve Mohbad’s Wife in Court

The notice of the pending DNA test application for Wunmi, the wife of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, will be served via substituted means as ordered by the Chief Magistrate Court in Ikorodu.

A statement signed by Monisola Odumosu, a member of the Aloba family’s legal team, and obtained by PUNCH Metro on Wednesday, confirmed this development.

In the application submitted by the legal team representing Joseph Aloba, the late singer’s father, they requested to serve Wunmi by posting all legal documents related to the case on her last-known address.

The legal team, led by Emmanuel Oroko, argued that previous attempts by the sheriff to serve Wunmi the court documents had failed, leading to the need for substituted means of service.

Odumosu explained, “Serving the process on the last-known address of the respondent by Court Order will ensure proper service and awareness of the pending legal proceedings. The Chief Magistrate approved the order for serving the respondent via posting at her last known address.”

The Aloba family is challenging the paternity of baby Liam and has petitioned the Family Court for a DNA test, requiring Wunmi and the child to undergo testing at a recognized laboratory in Lagos.”

In response to a viral video where Wunmi expressed willingness to take a DNA test but claimed she was not reachable for service, Odumosu disclosed that the court had adjourned the matter for next month for progress on the service report.

However, Wunmi’s lawyer, Taiwo Olawanle, stated that they were unaware of any court order mandating their client’s compliance, adding that they would act accordingly upon receipt of such an order.

Mohbad, who passed away at 27 on September 12, 2023, had his death surrounded by social media controversies. An ex-signee of Marlian Music, owned by Naira Marley, Mohbad left the label in February 2022. The Lagos State Police Command initiated an investigation team to probe his death on September 18, 2023, leading to the arrest of Naira Marley and others.

His body was subsequently exhumed for an autopsy on September 21, 2023, to determine the cause of death.
