Ruling Date Set for Request to Transfer Nnamdi Kanu from DSS Facility

On May 20, Justice Binta Nyako of the Abuja federal high Court will announce a decision regarding a request to relocate Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, from the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS.

Following the hearing of arguments on the application, Justice Nyako has scheduled a date for the ruling.

Kanu’s main lawyer, Alloy Ejimakor, told the court that having Kanu remain in DSS custody could hinder the swift court proceedings.

Ejimakor stated, “We are asking for the defendant to be moved from DSS detention to house arrest or a similar law enforcement agency’s custody.

“This is crucial, Your Honor. Our request is not arbitrary but a proposed solution to expedite the court’s directives for a fast trial.

“It is not unprecedented for a defendant to be under house arrest. Sambo Dasuki and El-ZakZaky have been granted this privilege before.”

However, the prosecutor, Adegboyega Awolomo (SAN), argued for the dismissal of the application.
