Rivers State: Two Men Sentenced to 12 Years for Defiling Minor

Following a case in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, two individuals, Lucky Christopher and Friday Lenu, have been given a 12-year prison term by a magistrate court in Port Harcourt for the defilement of a 10-year-old girl.

Chief Magistrate Rita Oguguo, in her ruling on Tuesday, found the accused guilty of raping the young girl, noting that the prosecution effectively established their involvement. The court also highlighted the consistency between the victim’s testimony and the evidence presented.

Investigations uncovered that prior to their arrest on April 20, 2022, the men had subjected the girl to multiple instances of assault. Additionally, they had issued threats to the victim and her aunt to prevent disclosure of the incidents.

Each man has been sentenced to seven years for the first charge and five years for the second, leading to a cumulative 12-year imprisonment term to be served concurrently.
