The ongoing local government election in Oyo State has been characterized as peaceful by Governor Seyi Makinde.

Addressing journalists after casting his vote at Polling Unit 1, Ward 11 in Ibadan North East Local Government Area on Saturday, Makinde commended the citizens of the state for their participation in the election.

Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission (OYSIEC) is responsible for conducting the local government election today, as reported by NewsNow.

Makinde expressed satisfaction with the peaceful nature of the exercise, highlighting the excellent security reports regarding the election.

He also urged individuals who noticed any irregularities to promptly report them to the security agencies.

“For us in Oyo State, grassroots democracy is a fundamental practice. As we approach our fifth year in office, this marks the second local government election we are conducting,” Makinde stated.

“Previously, caretaker administrations governed at the grassroots without the people having any say. It’s evident that people are participating peacefully, adhering to traffic restrictions,” he added.

“I commend our citizens for embracing democracy at the grassroots level,” Makinde concluded.
