Osun Poly Student Allegedly Killed by Hit-and-Run Driver

A tragic hit-and-run incident led to the death of Olanrewaju Olatona, a student at Osun State Polytechnic, Iree. The fatal accident occurred late Monday when a driver, driving against traffic, collided with the motorcycle carrying Olatona and another passenger along the Ikirun-Osogbo road.

According to a witness who preferred anonymity, the driver was going in the wrong direction when the collision happened. The impact of the crash resulted in the death of the National Diploma 2 student.

Olatona, the Financial Secretary of the Department of Mass Communication and preparing for his Industrial Training program, lost his life in the unfortunate accident.

Confirming the incident, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Yemisi Opalola, stated that a manhunt was underway to apprehend the runaway driver. It was initially not reported to the police that the victim was a student, but efforts to bring the driver to justice were ongoing.

PUNCH Metro previously reported a similar incident in April 2018 where a hit-and-run driver fatally struck a first-class student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Deborah Olajide. The driver fled the scene, sparking a protest by students in front of the university gate.
