Jigawa State Government’s Caution to NG-CARES Beneficiaries on Misuse of COVID-19 Support

Beneficiaries of the COVID-19 Action Recovery and Economic Stimulus (NG-CARES) in Jigawa State have been cautioned against undermining the project’s goals.

Dr Saifullahi Umar, the Technical Adviser on Agriculture and Chairman of NG-CARES, delivered this warning during a meeting with some beneficiaries in Jahun Local Government Area.

The project’s objective is to enhance access to livelihood support and food security services, as outlined by Governor Umar Namadi through the establishment of a committee.

This committee was tasked with creating a fair, transparent, and accessible process for selecting and monitoring beneficiaries.

Dr. Umar emphasized the thorough and scientific methods employed in selecting communities and beneficiaries to ensure fairness and accuracy.

The techniques involved in the selection process included the Generic Operations Manual (GOM), Jigawa Poverty and Vulnerability Community Ranking, and a simple random selection method, resulting in the selection of 216 communities and 15 beneficiaries.

A total of 4220 beneficiaries from impoverished and remote areas with limited government presence were chosen for agricultural inputs and asset support.

Umar encouraged the beneficiaries to use the assistance wisely, aiming for personal growth and contributing to the development of their communities.

The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Jigawa State Government for the project and pledged to utilize the support responsibly.
