Help Needed: N20m Required for Kidney Transplant by 48-year-old Kehinde

Kehinde Ugbede-Egbeyemi, a 48-year-old woman fighting kidney disease, is seeking financial aid from well-meaning Nigerians. She needs N20 million for a crucial kidney transplant.

A native of Ogun State, Kehinde has been struggling with kidney failure since 2018, shortly after her marriage.

Her health has deteriorated significantly, with a noticeable change in her physical appearance from a once strong and vibrant figure to a now frail and bloated state.

Describing her challenging journey, Kehinde explained how she had to part ways with all her belongings to gather funds for the transplant. The continuous weekly dialysis sessions have taken a toll on her finances.

She shared, “The illness surfaced just two months after my wedding in February 2018, and it has already consumed over N40 million. Initially, I paid N10 million for the transplant in 2018, but the lack of a suitable donor delayed the process.

“This substantial amount went into medications, weekly dialysis, supplements, and hospital bills. By 2020, I had already spent around N30 million.

“Following that, we paid an additional N7 million to the hospital, and my twin brother generously offered to donate his kidney. Contributions from kind-hearted individuals amounted to N4 million.

“Unfortunately, the operation couldn’t proceed due to a year-long battle with severe diarrhea that drained me completely. I was unable to consume anything but water, and my body was shutting down. Consequently, the funds were utilized for more dialysis sessions and medications at Zenith Medical Centre,” she added.

She also mentioned owing the hospital N6.5 million for the dialysis fees, which had surged from N45,000 to N58,600, conducted twice every week.

Supporting her claims, a medical report from Zenith Medical and Kidney Centre, Abuja, dated February 2018, outlined her treatment plan involving a bi-weekly hemodialysis routine, erythropoietin injections, and various supportive measures.

The report, endorsed by Consultant Nephrologist Dr. Olatise Am, emphasized that a kidney transplant was the optimal treatment choice for her condition, offering enhanced quality of life and prolonged survival.

The hospital highlighted the hefty financial commitment required for the procedure, estimating a total cost of approximately N22 million and signaling the need for financial aid.

Kehinde is making a heartfelt appeal for assistance from individuals and organizations to raise the necessary funds for her life-saving transplant.
