German Official Urges EU-wide Sanctions on Iranian Drone Technology

The German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, has appealed to the European Union (EU) to enforce a new set of sanctions targeting drone technology originating from Iran.

She is advocating for the expansion of the previous year’s initiative, which was spearheaded by France and other EU member states, aimed at restricting the trade of drones.

Baerbock is scheduled to engage in discussions in Israel today (Tuesday) to seek avenues for reducing tensions in the Middle East.

Following Iran’s recent strike, she denounced the nation’s “hostile actions” and affirmed that “Israel has the capability to defend itself.”

Highlighting the current delicate circumstances, Baerbock stressed the importance of collective efforts towards fostering de-escalation in the region.

“During these precarious times, it is crucial for us as the German government to collaborate towards de-escalation efforts across the entire region,” remarked Baerbock during a press briefing alongside her Jordanian counterpart, Ayman Safadi.
