EPL: Michael Owen praises Chelsea star EPL: Never knew he was that good – Michael Owen hails Chelsea star

Michael Owen, a former player for Liverpool and Manchester United, has changed his opinion on Chelsea star Cole Palmer.

Owen acknowledged that Palmer’s skills exceeded his initial expectations.

The ex-Newcastle and Real Madrid striker expressed his doubts about the player’s quality when Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, allowed him to join Chelsea.

During his appearance on Premier League Productions, the former England forward praised the young talent, calling him a standout performer for Chelsea.

Owen specifically highlighted Palmer’s impressive performance, scoring four goals in Chelsea’s dominant 6-0 victory over Everton.

“Yes, I must admit that he has surprised me. I knew he was talented. However, I had reservations because if he was truly exceptional, Pep Guardiola wouldn’t have permitted his departure,” Owen remarked.

“He requested to leave, and Pep Guardiola typically doesn’t impede players’ exits if they desire to move on.

“Yet, if Palmer’s abilities were exceptional, Guardiola would have retained him, insisting that ‘No, you will play even more. You can’t leave.’

“I always harbored doubts and questioned whether he could be that exceptional. But indeed, he is! He has performed brilliantly this season and emerged as a beacon of hope for Chelsea.”
