FG forms panel for Democracy Day celebration

The initiation of a 17-member Inter-Ministerial Committee for the upcoming 2024 Democracy Day Celebration has been announced by the Federal Government.

Heading the Committee is George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The Committee’s primary task is to coordinate a remarkable and fitting Democracy Day celebration.

The committee comprises individuals such as Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation; Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Interior; Wale Edun, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy; Sen. Abubakar Bagudu, Minister of Budget and Economic Planning; Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Barr. Nyesom Wike, Minister of FCT.

Other members of the committee include Hadiza Bala-Usman, Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination; Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy; Kayode Egbetokun, Inspector-General of Police; Yusuf Magaji Bichi, Director-General, Department of State Services; Colonel Adebisi Onasanya, Commander, Guards Brigade; Dr. Nnamdi Maurice Mbaeri, Permanent Secretary, General Services Office; Kachollom Daju, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health; and Richard Pheelangwa, Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Affairs Office, as the Secretary.

This information was disclosed in a statement released on Wednesday by Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information, OSGF.

During the Committee’s inauguration in his office, Akume underscored the significance of marking Democracy Day.

He expressed, “I am pleased to welcome you to the inauguration Ceremony of the 2024 Democracy Day Anniversary Inter-Ministerial Committee. Ladies and Gentlemen, the celebration of the 2024 Democracy Day Anniversary offers us the chance to ponder upon the contributions and sacrifices made by our national heroes and heroines in the fight for democratic governance in the nation.

“The proposed activities outlined for the 2024 Democracy Day celebration include a World Press Briefing on Thursday, 6th, June 2024; Juma’at Service on Friday, 7th, June 2024; Church Service on Sunday 9th, June 2024; Symposium/Public Lecture on Monday, 10th, June 2024, and the Presidential Broadcast alongside the Parade on Wednesday, 12th June 2024,” added the statement.
