Charges Pressed Against Man for Failing to Produce Son in Court for Trial

In an Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan, a 50-year-old man named Rafiu Ayantayo, who acted as a surety for his son, Biodun, was arraigned on Thursday for not being able to present his son for trial.

Accused of perverting the course of justice, Ayantayo was brought before the court by the police due to his son facing charges of housebreaking and theft.

During the court proceedings, the Prosecutor, Insp. Toyin Ibrahim, stated that Ayantayo failed to fulfill his promise of producing his son in court on March 26.

According to Ibrahim, the act of not producing his son was a violation of Section 126(1) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

Upon hearing the charges, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Mrs. Kausarat Ayofe granted bail to Ayantayo in the amount of N50,000, requiring two sureties to post the same amount.

It was specified that one of the sureties needed to be a blood relative of the defendant.

The case was adjourned until June 4 for further proceedings.
