On Saturday, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) issued a warning that their leader, Nnamdi Kanu, should not become a sacrificial lamb to protect corrupt politicians.
A caution was given to Justice Binta Nyako of an Abuja Federal High Court against the imprisonment of Kanu.
The group also urged Nyako to recuse herself from Kanu’s trial, citing allegations of compromise.
In a statement released by IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the organization called upon Western countries and human rights organizations like Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Inter-Society organization, and other reputable human rights organizations to intervene and pressure the Nigerian Government, President Bola Tinubu, and Justice Nyako to uphold the integrity of the country’s judicial system by releasing Kanu.
The statement emphasized that Kanu cannot be sacrificed to shield corrupt individuals like the Nyako Father and Son team, asserting that Kanu’s only “offense” is advocating for Biafra’s self-determination movement.
According to IPOB, Justice Binta Nyako is allegedly being coerced by the Nigerian government to imprison Kanu in exchange for leniency towards her husband and son, who are facing legal issues with the EFCC.
Amidst these pressures, IPOB called for Nyako to step down from Kanu’s case to avoid a potential crisis and ensure justice prevails.
The statement further highlighted the manipulation and blackmail tactics allegedly employed by the Nigerian government and prominent figures to influence the outcome of Kanu’s trial.
IPOB stressed the need for Nyako to prioritize justice, warning of severe consequences if she continues to be swayed by external influences.
Emphasizing the urgency of the situation, IPOB reiterated its demand for Justice Binta Nyako to disassociate herself from Kanu’s case promptly.
