29 Yoruba Nation agitators face trial in Oyo court

The Chief Magistrates Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, saw the arraignment of 29 Yoruba Nation agitators on Wednesday. They are facing charges for their alleged roles in the failed invasion of the Governor’s Office and the state House of Assembly.

This legal matter, identified by charge number Mi/520c/2024, involves the Commissioner of Police and the 29 individuals accused.

Last Saturday, masked individuals believed to be Yoruba Nation agitators tried to hoist their flag at the state secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan. However, security forces intervened to prevent them from doing so.

The suspects are charged with various offenses including treasonable felony, belonging to an unlawful society, illegally possessing firearms, and engaging in behavior likely to disturb the peace.

Inspector Bakare Rasaq from the State Criminal Investigation Department in Iyaganku, Ibadan, who is handling the case, stated that the alleged actions are in violation of Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Cap 38, Vol. II, Laws of Oyo State of Nigeria, 2000.

Earlier, 20 suspects were presented to the public by the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Hamzat Adebola.
