The EFCC has refuted claims of firing at demonstrators supporting Yahaya Bello

Denying allegations of shooting at protesters in support of Yahaya Bello at their Abuja headquarters, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) clarified the situation.

Dele Oyewale, the spokesperson for the commission, addressed a viral video on social media that depicted purported attacks by EFCC operatives on demonstrators.

Oyewale, speaking to NAN, emphasized that there was no shooting incident involving protesters and the commission on that Monday.

He clarified that EFCC personnel were involved in dispersing demonstrators who had arrived at the headquarters with intentions to disrupt operations.

“Contrary to claims made by the group, no arrests were conducted,” Oyewale stated.

Today saw two distinct protesting groups at the commission’s premises. The first group arrived with a commendation letter in support of the EFCC’s anti-corruption endeavors.

“Their letter was handed over to Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, the Director of Public Enlightenment Department, who assured to share their message with the chairman,” he added.

Shortly after, a second group arrived; however, their behavior turned violent and destructive, prompting EFCC officials to intervene and disperse them.

“No individuals were detained, and there was no altercation as claimed,” Oyewale affirmed.

Reports revealed that the pro-Bello protest was staged by the Kogi Youth Coalition, alleging mistreatment by commission operatives.

The coalition asserted that although the EFCC allowed the first set of protesters entry, they were denied the same privilege.
