Yoruba Nation Agitators’ Base Demolished by Court Order

A building believed to be the hideout of Yoruba Nation agitators in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, was demolished by the government following a court order.

The state government took action on Tuesday, demolishing the buildings used by Yoruba Nation agitators who had entered the state Secretariat in Agodi, Ibadan on April 7, 2024.

Speaking at the demolished sites in areas like Shagari, Toye Oyesola Street, and Boluwaji, the Commissioner for Lands, Housing, Survey and Urban Development, William Akin-Funmilayo, emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining peace and security.

Residents were urged to report any suspicious activities promptly to the authorities for necessary action.

According to the commissioner, the demolition was in compliance with a court order which stated that the structures should be removed due to concerns of weapons and firearms being housed in the buildings.

The commissioner reassured the public that the government’s primary focus is on safeguarding lives and properties through enhanced security measures.

He encouraged residents to remain calm and vigilant, emphasizing the importance of cooperation in maintaining security within communities.

Members of the local community reported suspicious activities to the police, highlighting the crucial role of community involvement in enhancing security.

Additionally, another illegal facility suspected of processing and packaging lithium was also demolished in Idi Ayunre, Oluyole Local Government Area, following a court order.

Earlier, Governor Seyi Makinde had ordered the closure of the facility, originally designated for battery and tire recycling, on February 28, 2024.
