Appeal for the Establishment of an Army Barracks in Okuama to Address Communal Clashes

Calling upon the Federal Government, the Okoloba Federated Community in Delta has requested the establishment of an army barracks in nearby Okuama Town as a measure to combat communal clashes and violence in the region. This appeal was presented by the Chairman of Okoloba Federated Community, Clement Koki, during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos.

Following a recent communal clash on March 14th, which resulted in the tragic death of at least 17 military personnel in Okuama, the necessity for enhanced security measures has become apparent. The officers, who were part of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, fell victim to an ambush while responding to a distress call.

Situated within the Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta, Okuama lies between the Ijaw communities of Akugbena and Okoloba. Koki stressed the importance of taking proactive steps to prevent such atrocities, emphasizing that the establishment of an army barracks in Okuama would significantly contribute to the promotion of peace in the region.

Expressing dismay over the loss of lives, including the brave military personnel, Koki reiterated the community’s plea for a sustainable solution. He extended sympathies to neighboring communities for any temporary disruptions caused by security measures enforced by the military to avert further crises.

The vision of establishing an army barracks in Okuama is seen as a crucial step towards curbing conflicts and reducing the instances of violence and bloodshed in the area.
