Wadume, Notorious Kidnap Suspect, Faces Charges of Terrorism and Murder

The Nigerian Police Force brought Bala Hamisu, also known as Wadume, and 18 others before Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court on charges of terrorism, murder, kidnapping, and illegal arms possession.

Wadume, a high-profile kidnapping suspect, was arrested by the police in Taraba state on August 6th. During his transfer to Jalingo, soldiers opened fire on the police team, leading to the death of three officers and a civilian. Wadume was subsequently released but was rearrested by the police 13 days later.

After his arrest, Wadume admitted that soldiers had rescued him initially. He alleged in a video that the soldiers took him to an apartment in Kano where they removed the handcuffs from his legs and hands. However, the Army has denied these allegations.

On Monday, March 16, Wadume and his co-defendants appeared in court to face the charges.
