Urgent Request for Quick Approval of the Primary Healthcare Bill in Jigawa State

The Jigawa State Maternal Newborn and Child Health Accountability Forum, known as JIMAF, has specifically urged Governor Umar Namadi to promptly give his approval to the revised Jigawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency bill, turning it into Law.

During a comprehensive two-day review meeting organized by JIMAF and with the support of the Lafiya UK Program, Isah Mustapha, the Secretary of JIMAF, conveyed this request.

According to Isah, the implementation of the revised bill as law will not only fortify Primary Health Care but also facilitate a more equitable distribution of human resources within the health sector, thereby enhancing service delivery. Moreover, he highlighted that it would bolster the state’s determination to attain universal health coverage.

He also took a moment to appreciate the Jigawa State Government for allocating 12.1% of its 2024 annual budget to the health sector, as well as approving a billion Naira for the enrollment of an additional 149,240 underserved individuals from 287 wards.

JIMAF has emphasized the necessity for the government to expedite the release of funds for the enrollment process to ensure that the intended beneficiaries can promptly access the services.

Furthermore, the group expressed its gratitude to all development partners for their unwavering support in enhancing the health indicators of the state.
