In Benin City, the Correctional Custodian Centre is now home to Osasumwen Vincent, as ordered by Justice Efe Ikponmwonba of the Benin High Court. Vincent is facing allegations of defiling an 11-year-old girl.
The 30-year-old suspect, charged with rape, appeared in court on Monday and pleaded not guilty upon hearing the charges.
Despite his plea, Ikponmwonba decided to keep him in custody at the correctional facility until the case resumes for hearing on June 10.
During the court session, the state prosecutor, Mrs. Hamma Iyamu, disclosed that Vincent allegedly raped the young girl forcefully in October 2022 at Ohovbe Quarters in Benin Juridical Division.
The prosecutor cited that the suspect’s actions violated Section 4 of the Edo State Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law 2021, punishable under Section 5 (1).
